Hey guys, brace yourselves for an intense blog post today.
As you all learned previously, my group and I had decided to change up our project completely, and with that we must clear up our bloggers and redo a lot of them such as the mood board, costuming, coloring, etc. In this blog, I will be clearing all that up!
I now realize how silly it is of me to have 3 whole blog posts and not explain our new plot! So here it is, I'm really excited about this one!
NEW PLOT:
Our new film will still be a coming of age, indie film but without the intense ending and will convey more of an emotional feel. The film will focus on friendship, distance, loneliness, and mostly change. We will follow the lives of four best friends, through the eyes of Vale, our main character as we experience the last summer she experienced with her best friends, Eli, Yve, and Maria. As the film switches from past to present and we experience the emptiness and somber feeling of a chapter of a young girls life ending. As we navigate through the intimate hangouts of the best friends, the times they've held each other in their arms, and the times they've done nothing but just be with each other, we will also experience the heartbreak of the friends. This film will be exhilarating and intense, so make sure to get ready!
MAIN CHARACTER ANALYSIS:
If you couldn't tell from our plot, our main character is Vale, played by Mariana Van Brackel. Vale's character is an outgoing, optimistic friend with a loud personality. She is a Colombian migrant, with a background filled with trials and tribulations. Due to her past trauma migrating to the U.S, she has developed a perfectionist personality with big dreams of becoming a politician. Her hobbies include singing and reading.
SUPPORTING CHARACTERS:
Eli: Eli is more on the shy side. She was bullied when she was younger, making her a little bit more reserved. Despite this, she is extremely kind and sweet. She is easily influence by Yve's edgy ideas, and often just goes with the flow. She is extremely smart, plays the piano, and has dreams of becoming a dermatologist after college.
Yve: Yve is our wild child, with a rebellious spirit and an outgoing personality. She could be described as the bad influence, but the reality is, she finds an escape from her troubled home life by relying on hanging out with her friends. Her main aim in going to college is to pursue psychology, but she heavily displays an interest in partying and having fun at school.
Maria: Maria is the good influence, with a more level-headed personality. She is an artistic person with an old soul. She is calm and caring for her friends, always looking out for them but she also has a wild side herself. She has dreams of pursuing architecture to provide for her family.
MOOD BOARD:
Here is our new and improved mood board! It depicts themes of college, friendship, or girlhood. The mood board shows the different colleges that the girls are going to and some different hangouts that the girls have had together. The late nights and orange hue shown in the film, highlight the flashbacks of the girls lives. The college acceptance letters further highlights the changes that the girls will be going through, making it more real that this was their last summer together.
The outfits shown in these images are similar to the costuming that the girls will have. Like our old costuming, all the girls chose their own costumes so that a piece of them could be in their character and so that they could have their own creative field to make their own girls. We will try to create scenes similar to the ones shown in the mood board to portray and convey friendship.

COSTUMING:
For our costuming, as I previously said, each girl had creative ability over their own costumes for their characters but they had to follow the theme that we needed for each scene. For example, in the opening scene the girls are wearing casual summery vibe clothes such as shorts and a basic tank top/ baby tee. However, our main outfits will be the college shirts to indicate that the girls will be going to college, more specifically, they will all be attending different colleges meaning that they will all be leaving each other behind.
These shirts will show new beginnings and openings for these girls as they navigate life without each other and start on a new leaf.
COLOR IN OPENER:
In our film, there are multiple flashbacks and flash forward to present time. To help the viewer differentiate the different time frames of the film, the opener will be recorded in different lighting for the different time periods. For example, in present time there will be no special lighting or filters for the girls. The footage would be raw and only have the industrial lighting from Vale's bedroom and the natural sunlight coming from the window. However, the flashbacks will be recorded more towards sunset where the hue is orange/yellow and an orange filter will be put over the footage to create a nostalgic mood as the girls reminisce on the times that they had together in their last summer together.
