Title Sequencing Research

Final Destination (2009)
In the 2009 horror/gore film, "Final Destination" It depicts people attempting to escape death and ultimately dying excruciatingly even so. The title opens in a 3D animation and shows previous deaths from the past films in this sequel. The sequence opens up in an Xray shader. While none of the actors really went through Xray to capture this, they look very realistic. They created this effect by using a shader, multi-layered compositing software then added different layers and atmospheres. The font was given small rotation for realism, mocking how a doctor might arrange it with blood oozing into the titles. Fans were said to really enjoy this sequencing that was achieved through 3D technology to further present an inventive viewpoint.

Juno (2007)
In the quirky 2000's coming of age film, "Juno" the title sequencing is extremely memorable and is very visually striking. The designers, Gareth Smith and Jenny Lee wanted to curate a title sequence that had texture with a little bit of edge. This was created through shadow play to tell a story. This sequence was also created through live action animation they created the cut-outs of Juno by printing every frame ad then outlining Juno, then photo copying the prints several times. All in all, I would say that this title sequencing is very nice and relevant to the indie vibe of the film. The idea of the the animation being hand drawn instead of just capturing Juno portrays her adolescence and creativity.

Shazam! (2019)
In the 2019 action film, it follows the life of a teenage boy named Billy Batson. In this film, Billy gains the ability to turn into a superhero through screaming the words "SHAZAM!" He uses these powers to protect the world from evil villains. The title sequence utilizes stop motion animation to show the different scenarios of Billy taking down criminals. This movie originates from a comic book so by using stop motion animation, they are able to extract the cartoony feeling from the original. This is also used to highlight the comedic nature of the film and show just how young Billy is. Furthermore, the sequence cuts in and out from different hero's taking down super villains. All in all, through the use of stop motion animation, the title sequence portrays a cartoonish, comedic feeling to start the film.
