Mise En Scene

Cinderella

This scene portrays an atmosphere of romance and longing through mise en scene. The soft, romantic lighting used in this scene creates a warm and soft ambiance. The subtle spotlight on cinderella shows that this is a pivotal moment in her life and the glow she is feeling inside by seeing the prince. The costumes scene throughout this scene are all elegant ballgowns for women and for men we can see them in suits. However, Cinderella and Prince charming are highlighted in this scene through the iconic light blue color that Cinderella is known and loved for. The setting (grand castle) shows the contrast between Cinderellas old home and what could be the start of her new life as a princess. The framing of this scene puts the other actors in a place that is close enough to Ella and Prince Charming but also far enough that the audience knows that nothing could come between them, especially not in this moment.

This scene portrays longing and wishing. As Ella looks wistfully through her window, the soft natural sunlight shines on her face, casting soft shadows showing the delicacy of this scene and highlighting Cinderella. Her simple and modest outfit (Costume) shows the simple life that she leads with her hair pulled back softly and carefree. The setting of this scene is in her cottage where her stepmother and stepsisters reside. This scene shows how lonely she truly is without her prince

This scene shows the only freedom that she had in her life while she was still living with her stepmother. The natural lighting in this scene highlights Ella and compliments the blue that she wears. The costumes that are worn by the village people differ between men and women. Men are seen in trench coats and heavy clothing, while women are in sundresses and seem to all be strolling around running errands in the natural everyday life in this kingdom. The framing of this scene is used to show Cinderella inevitably in the middle of it all while everyone else resides around her. The props in this scene can be seen as baskets for the errands that she is running for her stepmother.

This scene shows the ethereal beauty of the kingdom that everyone lives in. This scene displays the location of the entire movie (France). This also shows the setting of the castle where the ball takes place and where Cinderella has her second encounter with the prince. The grand walls of the castle show the stark difference between the life of Cinderella and her lover. The lighting in this scene highlights all the major aspects of this kingdom such as the mountains in the back, the beautiful sea, and most importantly the magnificent path to the castle.

This scene delivers melancholy and love. The black costumes worn by the actors show that they have just come home from a funeral. Ella had recently lost her mother and it was just her and her father in this moment. The framing of this scene shows Ella and her father together while trees and forest surround them showing that no one else is here for them in this moment except for each other. The lighting in this scene is darker than most of the movie showing a depressing moment in her life as she had just lost her mother. The actors in this scene must be chosen correctly to portray a younger Ella with the same charisma and charm that the older Ella portrays in this film.
